Bookings vs. Billings vs. Revenue
Definition
Three different events in a deal's life: Bookings = contracts SIGNED in a period; Billings = amounts INVOICED; Revenue = amounts EARNED (delivered).
Worked Example
$120k annual deal signed June 1, billed annually up front:
June bookings: $120,000
June billings: $120,000
June revenue: $10,000
Deferred revenue created: $110,000
Interpretation & Pitfalls
A great bookings month with weak revenue is normal; weak bookings with strong revenue means living off past sales. Track all three lines separately.
In TupicFinance
Signed contracts, invoices, and recognized revenue events are distinct records, so the three lines never blur.
