Day Template

Definition

A day template describes how a typical day unfolds for a given persona — when they wake, commute, work, cook, rest, and wind down. Different kinds of days follow different templates: a regular weekday, a weekend, a religious occasion, a national holiday.

Why It Matters

The same person is effectively a different audience at different points of their day — and on different kinds of days. A message that fits Tuesday morning can fall completely flat on Friday afternoon.

Real Examples

Weekday vs. weekend. A Dubai homemaker's weekday revolves around the school run, grocery decisions, and meal preparation. Her Friday centers on extended-family gatherings and a slower morning. A supermarket promoting weekday "quick dinner" bundles switches to "family feast" messaging for Friday — same person, different template.

Ramadan flips the day. During Ramadan, a typical day template inverts: quiet, low-energy afternoons; a sharp social peak after iftar; activity continuing past midnight; a pre-dawn meal. A brand that keeps its usual 1 PM posting schedule during Ramadan is talking to an audience that simply isn't there.

Payday weekend. In many markets, the days right after monthly salaries land follow their own template — more dining out, more shopping trips, more big-ticket browsing. Retailers who plan around this rhythm catch customers at their most willing moment.
