NRR / NDR — Net Revenue (Dollar) Retention
Definition
Revenue retained from the existing base INCLUDING expansion. NRR > 100% means the base grows even with zero new sales — the most prized SaaS property.
Formula
NRR = (Starting MRR - Churned - Contraction + Expansion) / Starting MRR
Worked Example
Starting MRR $84,000; churned $2,200; contraction $1,500; expansion $4,000:
NRR = ($84,000 - $2,200 - $1,500 + $4,000) / $84,000 = 100.4%
Interpretation & Pitfalls
Public SaaS benchmark: 105-130% annually. Read NRR with GRR: 110% NRR with 80% GRR is a leaky bucket patched by heavy upsell.
In TupicFinance
Expansion, contraction, and churn events combine into NRR on the retention dashboard.
