Stream Key
Stream Key
What is it?
A stream key is the secret password of a broadcast. It tells the platform two things at once: who is streaming and which channel this video belongs to. Anyone who has the key can broadcast as that channel — which is exactly why it must stay secret.
Practical example
A YouTuber copies their stream key from YouTube Studio into OBS. From then on, whenever OBS starts streaming with that key, the video automatically appears on their channel. If they accidentally show the key on screen during a tutorial, a stranger could paste it into their own software and broadcast anything to the YouTuber's audience — so platforms offer a "reset key" button for emergencies.
Key things to know (non-technical)
- Treat it like a bank card PIN: never share it, never show it on screen.
- It pairs with the ingest address (Stream URL): URL = the door, key = the password to the door.
- Platforms allow regenerating it instantly if leaked.
- Some platforms now replace permanent keys with one-time or auto-rotating keys for safety.
In Tupic Live
Each Tupic Live channel needs its own stream key with a one-tap "reset" option — plus warnings in the UI (e.g., masking the key by default) to prevent accidental leaks by creators.
